Social Entrepreneurship
Linking Business to Philanthropy
Promoting a world where we practice sustainable development aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals is core to my passion in social entrepreneurship - striving for a world in which particularly the youth have a sustainable livelihoods. By networking and facilitating strategic conversations with potential stakeholders, I seek to create collaborations and partnerships to enhance opportunities for growth and development of less advantaged communities and individuals. Donor-Funded Programmes, especially for skills development and higher education, have a direct benefit to society and the economy and the contribution to social upliftment creates a political stability vital for the future of business. Added to which Corporate Social Investment (CSI), together with skills development and enterprise development (ED) are important factors for Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE). It’s all part of a successful strategy.
Over 20 years of consulting with NGOs has proven the strength of building strategies for sustainability by linking the upliftment of society with sound business practices and funding models. These NGOs have included over the years Kagiso Trust, Mvula Trust, Tiso Foundation, Assoc. for the Physically Disabled, Nations Trust, Legal Resources Centre, Woman’s Development Bank Trust, Cope Housing Association, and the Academy for Educational Development. I have established collaborations between the Artisan Training Institute and The Mastercard Foundation, Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator, Afrika Tikkun and the Standard Bank Tututwa Community Foundation, as well as between the Artisan Training Foundation and the The Knowledge Trust in training youth in engineering skills and artisan trades.
I sit on the Committee of the Regional Centre of Expertise - Gauteng (acknowledged by the United Nations University) representing technical skills training in support of ESD and SDGs.
